Horse Back

On Saturday some friends came to 'The Point House' on horse back. They tied the horses to some birch trees and came in for a nice visit.

Tip of MacIvor Point

This is what the tip of MacIvor Point looked like yesterday. My G.G. Grandfather Malcolm MacIvor and his brother John landed there from Scotland about 1820 and got their land grants in 1823. Across the water is Bucklaw where their father Neil and brother Angus each had farms. They came to Cape Breton a few years after Malcolm and John.

Cutting the Hay

My cousin Alfred cut our hay fields this week. The past two weeks have been hot and humid.

Dougall Pottery, Trimmed Pots

I turned two of the pots upside down so you can see the deep foot rim style I use on some bowls and the low profile style that is best for oven ware. The rough grog in the clay can be seen in the close up of the oven dish.

Little Narrows Anniversary Service

Anniversary Service will be held at Little Narrows Presbyterian Church on Sunday, August 9, 2009, at 11 A.M. Rev. Ralph Johnston will be the guest speaker.

The Gaelic Hymn Sing Group will meet at Little Narrows Church Wednesday, August 5 at 7 P.M.

Serving Bowls and Oven Dishes

This morning I made eight medium size pots. The straight sided ones will have a handle on each side to make it easier to lift them in and out of the oven. This clay has quite a bit of grog [like fine sand] in it which is hard on the hands when "throwing" the pots but helps make oven dishes more durable.
